A Week of Sleep--All in one Shot

Today we are happy to announce another new data tool available on the myZeo New Tools (Beta) tab.  The Weekly Report allows you to visually compare your sleep graphs and your sleep phases over the past week.  It also compares your average REM, Deep, ZQ and other info to those of the previous week and people your age and gender.

Just Say “No” to At-Home Jet Lag

Did you know that an erratic bedtime schedule could lead you to experiencing “jet lag“?  The Weekly Report can help you see if you’re guilty of such behavior–and help you change your ways.

When I was in college, I was guilty of going to bed later and later each night as the week wore on.  In the beginning of the week I was asleep by midnight, but by the end of the week, I was turning off the lights at 4am.  Needless to say, each morning was more brutally groggy than the previous.  Essentially I had a West Coast sleep schedule with an East Coast class schedule.  While it’s no secret that I love SmartWake™, I knew that I needed to make some changes.

In Bed at 10; asleep by 11:30?

What Not To Have: An Erratic Sleep Schedule

Going to bed at different times each night can confuse your circadian rhythm, making it difficult for it to tell your body to feel tired or wake up.  Sometimes we think that we go to bed at the same time every night, but how many times did you stay up answering emails, watching TV or reading that book you just couldn’t put down?

The Sleep Graphs section in the Weekly Report can show you which nights you are going to bed (and falling asleep) earlier or later than usual during an entire week.  For an optimal schedule, the sleep graphs should be lined up on top of each other (so you can draw a horizontal line from Sunday to Saturday).  Try to have no more than a half hour of variation between all of the bed times and rise times (that includes the weekends!).

If you notice that your schedule is erratic, challenge yourself for one week to keep the same bedtime and lights-out time and see how it feels to be in sync.  Record your experience in your daily sleep journal and review your notes at the end of the week.

Want a little more help in keeping that constant bedtime?  Check out the Sleep Info Center and our Power Down Hour blog post.

We Love Feedback

Tell us what you like (or dislike) about the Weekly Report and what we should change–we’re all ears!

Until next time…
